■ ICEP 2011Activities (Applicants are required to attend both periods)

  • 1. ICEP in Japan and Bangladesh: December 15-30, 2011 (TBD)
  • Activities : Rehearsals in Japan.
    Concerts at elementary schools, institutions and hospitals in Bangladesh
    Schedule : Meet and rehearse in Japan→activities in Bangladesh→disband in Japan

  • 2. Follow-up events in Japan: about 10 days between May 20 and June 10, 2012 (TBD)
  • Activities : Reporting Concerts for the public and Visiting Concerts at schools, institutions and hospitals
    Schedule : Meet and rehearse in Japan→activities in Japan→disband in Japan

■ Parts to be Auditioned:

Violin, Viola, Violoncello (one player each, with alternates)

■ Application qualifications:

We invite applicants of every nationality, born between December 1, 1976 and December 1, 1991 with a strong interest in community engagement activities.
Applicants are required to attend the entire schedule above (both periods), and should have the ability to communicate in English.

■ Fees and Expenses:

There is no application fee.
The International Community Engagement Program is an educational activity and participants receive no performance fees.
MUSIC SHARING will cover: the cost of local transportation/accommodation in Tokyo for rehearsals before the tour and for the follow-up events in June 2012; travel expenses between current residence and Tokyo and between Japan and Bangladesh; visas for Bangladesh and Japan; local transportation/accommodation in Bangladesh and Japan, arranged by Music Sharing; travel insurance (full or partial); and meal expenses (up to 3,000 Japanese Yen per day).
MUSIC SHARING will not be responsible for costs of passport, musical instrument insurance, immunization program, and personal communication and amenity expenses during the ICEP.
If vaccination is necessary for personal health or required by the local authority, the expense must be incurred by the applicant.

■ Please Note:

  • MUSIC SHARING reserves the right to alter the destination country in the event of a natural disaster, change in political conditions or for any other reason.
    Equally, the dates for the ICEP itself and for the follow-up events in Japan, while correct as of October 20, 2011, may have to be adjusted.

  • This program is dramatically different from the usual concert tour; assume that the schedule will be intense and with little or no flexibility.
    There can be no allowances for changes in the schedule due to personal reasons. Applicants may not be accompanied by family members or friends.

  • MUSIC SHARING holds unlimited rights to the recording, filming and videotaping, as well as to live or future media transmission, of all activities or presentations nationally and internationally.
    These may be used for the PR activities of MUSIC SHARING.

  • 1. International Community Engagement Program 2011 Bangladesh Application Form in English with a photo (Note: Photo must be a high-resolution official color photo of you holding your instrument. The photo must show your full face and have a plain, white or other light color background.)

  • 2. Biography or curriculum vitae in English or Japanese

  • 3. Letter of intent in English or Japanese

  • 4. Two letters of recommendation with specific references to the program in English or Japanese

  • 5. An essay on what community engagement means to you in English or Japanese

  • 6. E-mail address and phone number at which you could be contacted for a short interview between July and August 2011

  • 7. Recording of a recent performance of the following: (CD-R Only)

      a. Two contrasting movements from one of Bach's unaccompanied works.
      b. First and Second Movements from a standard duo work with piano.
      c. Piece of your choice (duration: 10 minutes or less)
      d. Two contrasting movements from the same string trio or string quartet.

      Note:
      1) Recording should be taken after January 1, 2009 (CD-R Only)
      2) Please omit repeats.
      3) Please submit:
        - the list of all players featured in the recording.
        - the list of works on the recording.
      4) Edited recordings and video footage with music are not accepted for audition

The above-mentioned materials will not be returned

■ Closing dates:

Completed application form with appropriate attachments must be received by MUSIC SHARING no later than July 1, 2011.

■ Applications:

E-mailed or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
MUSIC SHARING is not responsible for lost applications or applications damaged en route.
All applications will be reviewed by the special projects committee and treated as confidential. The Committee reserves the right to request additional information from or about applicants.
The decision of the Committee is final.
The audition-application process is conducted in two parts. Applicants who pass the screening of documentary materials will be interviewed via e-mail or phone. Please clearly indicate your email address, phone & fax number so that Music Sharing can contact you during July-August 2011, if necessary. Also please provide Music Sharing with a name and phone number for emergency purposes.
Those who have participated in ICEP in the past are encouraged to re-apply and are exempt from the screening stage of the audition-application. To confirm necessary materials to send, contact MUSIC SHARING office. Participants are limited to participation in no more than two cycles of ICEP.
All applicants will be notified of selection or rejection but will not be offered feedback related to the audition.

■ Result:

The result of the audition will be announced in writing in August 2011.
