Samika Honda was born in Kochi, Japan, grew up in England, and since 2000 has lived in Paris. She studied at the Paris Conservatory (CNSM). Prize winner at national and international competitions in violin and chamber music, she founded the Ise Quartet and the Ensemble Monsolo. Samika Honda has played as soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Yamagata, amongst others, in prestigious halls including the Grand Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna. Her recording of Ysaye's Six Sonatas for solo violin was nominated as the disc of the month in the January 2011 The Strad Magazine. Her second CD [ Pour Ysaye ] will be released in the fall 2012.

Violist William Frampton has appeared in recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, also in Boston, Cambridge, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Wellesley, and Florida, as soloist with conductors such as Joseph Silverstein and David Hoose performing the major concerto repertoire as well as works by Vaughn-Williams, Bruch, Sapievskyi, Homans, and others. William studied with Kim Kashkashian, Daniel Phillips, Samuel Rhodes, and Choong-Jin Chang, and has worked with composers Gyorgy Kurtag and Malcolm Peyton. William is the Artistic Director of Music at Bunker Hill, an adjunct faculty member at Queens College, CUNY, and holds degrees from New England Conservatory and Juilliard.

Praised by The New York Times as “striking,” American cellist Hiro Matsuo is quickly establishing himself as a rising talent of his generation. His performing career has taken him all over the world, and he has appeared in the most celebrated venues including Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Kimmel Center, Royal Albert Hall, and Seoul Arts Center. He is a graduate of Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School.

Audition Overview


■ Positions for Audition
1 Violin, 1 Viola, 1 Cello

■ Activity Period and Overview
Quartet members are required to participate in the entire schedule as follows:

Japan Concerts at elementary schools, special-needs schools, several facilities, hospitals and halls, for the purpose of reporting to the community on engagement activities in Bangladesh

■ Eligibility
Young musicians of all nationalities and current residencies with a strong interest in community engagement activities
No health or nationality issues for performances in Japan and Bangladesh
Age: between 20 and 30 years old, as of December 1, 2012
Participants must be able to attend the entire schedule above (with a possible change of date)
Ability to communicate in English

■ Compensation
There is no honorarium for performances. However, the following expenses will be covered by MUSIC SHARING:

Transportation Expenses:
Transportation between current residence and Tokyo, or local transportation in Japan (negotiable)
Transportation between Japan and Bangladesh
Transportation required for activities in Japan and Bangladesh
Visa application fee for entry into Japan and Bangladesh:
A valid visa is required for the entry into Bangladesh; participants are responsible for visa application. It does not cost anything for a Japanese citizen to obtain a visa to Bangladesh in Japan.
Accommodation during the activities:
Accommodation will be arranged by MUSIC SHARING.
Meal expenses
Up to 3,000 JPY per day will be provided.
Travel insurance between current residence and Japan and Bangladesh
Participants are responsible for obtaining the necessary travel insurance, which will be reimbursed, in full or in part, by MUSIC SHARING.

Obtaining or renewing passport
All expenses related to obtaining visa, including application fee
Musical instrument insurance
Immunization program
Participants are responsible for immunization necessary to enter Bangladesh, after consulting own doctors.
Personal communication costs (i.e., telephone, Internet)
Room service and cleaning costs during the activity period

■ Audition Process
The first round of the audition is based on the applications and recordings.
The second round of the audition is an interview by email or fax.
Please provide your email address, phone number and fax number at which you could be reached for a brief interview during the selection period (July and August 2012) in the event that the committee has any further questions.

The first round of the audition could be waived for those who have participated in the previous ICEP. Please contact MUSIC SHARING office for more details.
Applicants may participate in the ICEP no more than twice.

■ Result
The result of the audition will be announced by email or fax in August 2012.

■ Other Notes
MUSIC SHARING cannot respond to inquiries related to the audition results.
MUSIC SHARING reserves the right to change the destination country in the event of a natural disaster, change in political conditions, or for any other necessary reasons.
As this program is different from the usual concert tour, please assume that the schedule will be intense with little or no flexibility, and that it requires extensive travel because of unpredictable weather and traffic conditions.
There can be no allowances for changes in the schedule due to personal reasons during the activity period.
Participants may not be accompanied by family members or friends.
MUSIC SHARING holds unlimited rights to the following, for use in connection with its PR activities:
a) Recording, filming and videotaping;
b) Transmission and broadcast of the recorded materials;
c) Copying and dissemination of the materials

■ Submission Materials
All documents should be written in English or Japanese and be submitted by online application form. Attachments and recordings should be uploaded by using a file transfer service of your choice. Please include the URL of the download site in your application form.

Attachments
1) Two letters of recommendation Letters from teachers; no specific format is required.

3) Biography or CV 1 page (A4 size); if possible, please submit brochures of previous concerts
4) Letter of intent 1 page (A4 size)
5) Essay 1 page (A4 size); Theme: “What is Community Engagement for a Performer”
Recordings * Recording should be made after January 1, 2010.
* Edited recordings are not accepted for audition.
* The entire recording, or one category from the list below, should be videotaped. Others can be audio only.
1) Solo Two contrasting movements from one of J.S. Bach's unaccompanied works
2) Duo with piano Two contrasting movements from a standard sonata with piano
3) String ensemble Two contrasting movements from a standard string trio or string quartet
4) Piece of your choice Duration: 10 minutes or less

The above-mentioned materials will not be returned to applicants.
Applicant's information, attached documents and recordings will not be used for anything other than this audition.
